So just like all other Android devs out there, after the Google I/O 13 session you downloaded the Android Studio and installed it to find out that you can’t launch it. Don’t worry you are not alone. It’s a global phenomenon.
First step
Navigate to your Android Studio installation path first and locate the bin folder. You will find a bat file named studio.bat. Just execute it.
In the command prompt you will get the error why it is not being launched. If your error message is about Java Path follow the steps below
Set up JAVA_HOME path
- Right click on your computer
- Select properties
- Advance System settings
- Environment Variables
- Under System variables, click “New”
- Add variable name JAVA_HOME and variable value is the path to JDK folder e.g. C:Program Files (x86)Javajdk1.7.0_21 (leave bin)
- Make sure you have jdk path is given in the path variable e.g. C:Program Files (x86)Javajdk1.7.0_21bin) (add bin)
Now go back to your Android studio installation folder. Run the studio.bat file once again. If everything works fine you will see that Android Studio is launching.
Wait.. it is launched but can’t create new projects
Are you getting the error as below?
No worries. You probably have Android sdk installed in your machine with Eclipse. Android Studio itself comes with an SDK folder. Unfortunately Android Studio referring to the old sdk location.
As I said earlier, navigate to Environment Variables page and remove any reference to the old SDK folder and add the reference to the new sdk folder inside the Android Studio installation path.
Even if this doesn’t help you then follow the path below
Project Defaults -> Project Structure -> Click “New” -> Select “Android SDK” -> Select the SDK folder inside the studio installation
I’m pretty sure now your Android Studio is running without issues. Good luck go check some Google I/O videos and start messing around with Android Studio, the new IDE for Android Development form Google itself.
