Kelaniya Campus is known as one of the most notorious campus in Sri Lanka. Sometimes I feel bit reluctant to say that I’m a product of Kelaniya University. Anyway put my grievances aside and come to the point.
There is a Light Signal in main road which enable students and lecturers to cross the Kandy road. You’ll feel the important of this signal light during traffic time. None of the vehicle drivers will give a shit about students or lecturers crossing the road.
Five months back the signal lights went dead. Students were struggling to cross the road as vehicles don’t stop for them. In signal light you’ll find a number, which you can use to call the authorities or the people who planted it.
One of my friends took the number and made a call to this people. The chief Engineer talked and he said “Sorry! RDD didn’t pay the electricity bill, so they cut the electricity. Signal light is in good condition; once RDD paid the bill we can re-activate the signal light”
How pathetic?? In this country government is spending more money on unnecessary stuffs why not on this signal light??? After all this is an investment on the country. We were so pissed with the authorities and waited for about 5 months.
Now RDD paid the bill and another hilarious event happened. Once the signal light is reactivated, instead of working it went on strike. Yah! Red light blinks forever. It’ll not change to green so pedestrians can’t cross the road.
Again called the Engineer and the response was “I‘ll send someone to fix it”.
Someone came and fixed something and the signal light went dead again, my friend forgot to remember that this is Sri Lanka. No point of calling and asking from authorities. Just live as you want and don’t care about rest of your country as most of us do.

Hehehe….best idea is to run when the road is a bit empty…don’t stop in the middle of the road, just run like your life depends on it! Take my word for it, it’s worked for me and saved me a lot of time! ;P

Yeah! It may speed up you to heaven or even hell (for disobeying road rules) 😉
I know couple of guys who cross the road as you said, bit scary for me to see them walking on street like this.

I remember how the railway gate near my place faced the same problem..the gate would not close without the electricity and the railway people have not paid the bills.. so pple were standing in the middle of the road with red flags to indicate that a train was coming… hilarious scene
