Long awaited unlimited HSPA broadband is offered by dialog. Interesting stuff in this initiation is HSPA dongle for 6000 SLR. If you are to buy one, then you need to spend around 18,000 SLR – 20,000 SLR.
Though it is said unlimited download, there is a Fair User Policy which may affect you. Fair user policy limits your download speed with your download volume. Basically, if you’re a freak downloading each and everything from net, then your download will affect other user’s downloading experience in the network.
Torrent lovers will have hard time with this package, but normal users can get maximum out of it. Currently SLT ADSL has no Fair user policy attached to it, so we can download any amount of software, games, and movies from torrent sites and file sharing sites.
As far as I know dialog is the first to introduce fair user policy in Sri Lanka and they are making a good deal out of it.
You’ll be given 7.2 Mbps of downlink but when you reach 6 GB limit, you’ll be in trouble. Your speed will come down to 64 kbps, which is equivalent to dial-up connection. Refer the table that I got from dialog.lk. It’ll give you a clear picture about this product.

For example you reached 6 GB but still you wanna go for 7.2 Mbps. All you have to do is pay 100 Rs per day till the end of the billing cycle. From next month you’ll again get 7.2 Mbps till you reach 6 GB limit. It’s kind of OK for me.
If you’re a university student you’ll be entitled to 50 percent discount on bills, so hurry. Offer available till 15th of October.
There are rumors around and people are saying that Mobitel also going to introduce such unlimited download package for their users. We’ll wait and see what Mobitel gonna do about it. I checked in mobitel’s site but so far no such announcement. May be they wanna keep it secret till they reveal it.
For god sake, 2990 SLR is too much for an average Sri Lankan but prices will come down after some time. As Airtel enter the market there will be a big competition among mobile operators and they’ll have to slash down their prices to keep their customers.
As we know, dialog is very good at marketing and they like to get as much as customers before the entry of Airtel. All we can say at this point is, Good initiation from Dialog but prices should go down so that average Sri Lankan can afford it.

I am using Dialog WiMax at the office. I am not satisfied with the technical support. Recently we had DNS problem they couldn’t solve it. I manged to fix it with opendns.
The way they are calculating the traffic is not at all transparent. I can’t blindly believe a commercial company. Even before you reach the you wan’t be getting 7.2Mbps speed at all. So will the customer refund the part of the payment since he/she is not getting the speed? From my understanding fair policy is unfair again customer.

@umapathy
I have SLT ADSL in home. Though the promised speed is 512 Kbps, I never reach the promised speed.
May be itz a common problem we all have in Sri Lanka.
bage says
Will that work in Jaffna??
Mayooresan says
@Bage
If you have 3G coverage, then it must work. As far as I know, Jaffna got 3G.
To experience the higher speed you need to have 3.5G coverage.

Mayooresan,
Thanks for the reply. Well I do have aDSL connection @ home. I don’t see any issues but I use to come to Colombo only once in a while. Till SLT introduced aDSL connection was around 1Mbps and even slower like 184kbps as well for the promised 4Mbps connections. I think marketing guys purposely reduce the speed and then says they are using shared bandwidth that’s why you are not in a position to get the speed. There should be a fair policy to protect the customer from these marketing so that the people know “What is said and what is true” like valluar told (“எப்பொருள் யார் யார் வாய்க் கேட்பினும் அப்பொருள் மெய்பொருள் காண்பது அறிவு”)

Sorry Mayooresan,
Mistakenly I put your name instead on mine. Can you edit it thanks in advance.
Mayooresan says
@umapathy
In our home we’re using 512Kbps connection but real speed is around 400Kbps. It’s so unfair and hope these people will take initiation to over come this issue.
ps: Your name has been restored as you requested. 😀

its seem every one is having the same issue, check this blog out as well, seem dialog is cheating every one

Yes.. I was dissapointed about Dialog mobile broadband prices (terrifs) as it’s too much for an average sri lankan but yesterday i purchased an Airtel unlimited mobile broadband package which is amazing. with taxes, it’s only about 1900 per month and there’s NO fair user policy. that’s the greatest about it. ALso, the speed is good and reliable. I did not get disconnected or did not notice any interruptions when i was browsing the net. Hope they’ll improve their coverage which is at the moment limited to colombo, kandy and galle.
Nadun says
Dialog doesnt have a good international bandwidth. Therefore its speed sucks. FUP is just a tricky term they use to use to cover up their lack in bandwidth.
Mobitel 3G speed is good, but the download capacity is limited.
Airtel coverage is less and speed also not very good.
SLT ADSL is fairly ok, compared to others.
But Sri Lankan ISPs are far below and useless when compared to most other countries. Most of the technical support personnel and customer care people dont know the even the basics in IT, eg: differnce between KB/s and kb/s..

Now the extension cost for dialog FUP is Rs.250/- (What the hell!!!). I wish there should be a strong competitor for dialog in the HSDPA market!
Mayooresan says
@Shageevan
