Now the Meter Tuk has become a standard in Colombo city and we tend to travel only in Meter Tuks. It’s good that now we can save a good amount of money as well as avoid the tension of driving our vehicle in this damn traffic.
But lately I have noticed some peculiar behaviour with some Meter Tuk’s meter. Couple of days back me and my relatives decided to have a family re-union at KFC Bamba. After the event, me and wife took a tuk and took off to Wellawatte form Bamba. All of a sudden my wife told me that the meter is running as if it has gone mad.
When I looked closely, I can see that the meter is running at 79 Km/h. Common you gotta be kidding. Tuk running at 79Km per hour at Galle Road?
I asked the guy to stop the Tuk and gave him 50 Rupees and told him I can’t pay more than that. But the driver went mad and started to curse me and did things a typical tuk driver would do. I told him again if you have problems let’s go to the Bamba police station and check your meter. Then suddenly he backed off and took the money and took off.
Lesson learned is that, don’t take tuks from the stand. Especially from the areas such as Bamba and Colpitty. Most of the drivers there are greedy bastards. Come to galle road, Duplication Road (or any main road) and take a tuk that passes by.
Keep an eye open when you travel in Tuks.
