Some WordPress posts come with long URL. For example http://yourdomain.com/how-to-find-a-good-life-partner-in-life
As you see long addresses are bit bulky and hard to remember. You can easily make small URLs using slug. You can define your URL using slug.
When you’re writing a new post you can change the slug. In WordPress 2.5.X, it’s straight forward. See the figure given blow. Click the edit button and change the slug as you need.
In the other hand these long addresses will help in SEO, but it’s hard to remember, so it won’t bring you returning visitors. Also remember dashes will help you with SEO.

lengthy urls r not necessarily seo friendly. beyond a length, it starts to look like spam for the engines. that’s y wordpress limits ur url length. it’s best not to stuff them with keywords. a smaller and to the point url is more seo friendly than a glaringly seo tricking url. then the dashes r auto inserted by wordpress.

You know much better than me in this SEO and WordPress field.. so feel free to correct me 🙂
Agreed dashes are included automatically by WordPress, dashes are more SEO friendly than the hyphens..!

Things that are good for users, are good for SEO. With contextual URLs, the keywords in the permalinks aren’t weighted very high – often they’re very low in many scenarios (i believe) – with top engines. But a good URL that reinforces the context of the page from the SERPs is worth a lot.
